About Us / The Farm

A lifetime of producing natural fibre, both wool and mohair, led us in the late 1980's into the exciting world of alpacas.

We impatiently awaited the arrival of the first alpacas into Australia from Chile via New Zealand. With their arrival we began our wondrous journey, a roller coaster of wonder and joy, as these intelligent, gentle animals became part of our lives.

Selection of top males available has always been our aim, these matings to our original females has seen giant leaps in quality with each generation. The males were sourced from New Zealand, North America and then finally accessing the beautiful males brought in from Peru by Jolimont Alpacas.

The low maintenance alpaca, showing amazing adaptability, has quickly spread to every corner of every Australian state, on both large and small holdings. Australia now stands well to the fore in world alpaca production and we at Amberdale feel confident our alpacas are very much part of that base.

Situated in the rolling hills of the Strzelecki Ranges of South Gippsland at Mirboo North, Amberdale is home to a large herd of huacaya. Shearing takes place in October, and the cria (the baby alpaca) are born shortly after.

If you are interested in a farm visit, please call us on (03) 5668 2352 and arrange a time to suit. You will receive a warm welcome from Rosa.
